Integration in progress
MedPhone for eClinicalWorks practices.
MedPhone runs on athenahealth today. The eClinicalWorks integration is under active development, and we are lining up the first practices to go live on it.
We will not tell you eClinicalWorks works today when it does not. This page updates when it goes live.
What an eClinicalWorks front desk fields all day.
Primary care, internal medicine, multi specialty groups and community health centers. One of the largest ambulatory installed bases in the country.
- Refill requests that need a provider decision before anyone can answer the patient
- Same day sick visits, where the caller wants to know if there is anything left today
- Results questions, most of which are really appointment requests in disguise
- Referral and prior authorization chasing, on hold with somebody else the whole time
- Insurance changes at the start of every year, all arriving in the same few weeks
High volume, high interruption, and a front desk that is usually also doing check in. The phone is not the only job, which is exactly why it is the one that slips.
Where the eClinicalWorks integration stands.
We are building against the eClinicalWorks API now. No eClinicalWorks practice is live on MedPhone yet, so we are not going to show you a feature grid as though one were.
What is real today is athenahealth, where MedPhone is answering patient calls in daily use. The call handling, the routing, the transfer rules and the writing back to the chart are all built and working. What changes per EHR is the connection underneath.
Practices on the list get told first when eClinicalWorks goes live, and they shape which workflows we build first.
What we would build first for eClinicalWorks.
The order matters more than the feature list. These are the four we would take first on eClinicalWorks, because they are the calls a primary care front desk cannot get to and the ones that quietly cost the most.
Refill intake that collects the medication, the pharmacy and the date of the last visit before it ever reaches a provider, so the callback is a decision rather than an investigation
Same day triage that knows what is genuinely left on today rather than offering a slot that filled an hour ago
Results calls treated as what most of them actually are, which is a patient asking for an appointment in a roundabout way
Insurance changes captured on the call in January, when a year of them arrive inside three weeks and every one is a claim waiting to be rejected
Weighing us against healow Genie?
healow Genie is eClinicalWorks own first party product, so it is the comparison most eClinicalWorks practices actually want. We wrote an honest side by side, including where it beats us.

Does MedPhone work with eClinicalWorks today?
No. The eClinicalWorks integration is under active development and no eClinicalWorks practice is running on MedPhone. MedPhone is live in production on athenahealth. We would rather tell you that plainly than sell you a roadmap.
What does joining the list actually get us?
You get told first when it goes live, and you get a say in which workflows we build before the others. Practices on the list are who we call when we need real call recordings and real scheduling rules to build against.
Can we see it working before then?
Yes. You can watch it answer and book on a live athenahealth practice in a twenty minute demo. The phone behavior, the escalation rules and the transcripts are the same product. The part that is specific to eClinicalWorks is what it writes back.
What MedPhone does in production today.
Running on athenahealth today. This is what comes to eClinicalWorks when the integration lands.
- Answers every inbound patient call on the first ring, on hours and after
- Books, reschedules and cancels appointments against the provider schedule
- Takes prescription refill requests and routes them to the provider inbox
- Collects insurance details and flags mismatches for the front desk
- Transfers complex or urgent calls to your team on rules you set
- Writes a summary of every call back to the patient chart
